Standard Two
Principals/assistant principals set high standards for the professional practice of 21st century instruction and assessment that result in a no-nonsense accountable environment. They must be knowledgeable of best instructional and school practices and must use this knowledge to cause the creation of collaborative structures within the school for the design of highly engaging schoolwork for students, the on-going peer review of this work, and the sharing of this work throughout the professional community.
Element IIa. Focus on Learning and Teaching, Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment: The principal/assistant principal leads the discussion about standards for curriculum, instruction and assessment based on research and best practices in order to establish and achieve high expectations for students.
At my residency I have one on one PLCs with teachers; we discuss data, student progress and reflect on our practices. I created the template below for teachers to complete prior to the meeting and it is utilized to drive the PLC. I learned the importance of having conversations with teachers about their classroom data, providing feedback and suggestions as they move forward. I also learned not to be afraid when having these conversations; these conversations will reveal many things to leaders.
One of the district initiatives for the 2017-2018 school year is to implement small group instruction. I created flow charts based on the amount of instructional time teachers have with their students. The flowchart suggests the instructional flow of the classroom to implement small group instruction.

The Early College has a very unique schedule, based on the master schedule I created an Early Release schedule that allowed all teachers to receive a planning as well as instructional time with all of their classes. By creating this schedule, I the processes that are taken to create a schedule. I also learned to be as fair as possible when providing planning time for teachers.
